News
and Updates from 2006 K-8
** December 2006** This season has been great
so far. We have wrestled in Two tournaments to date and have done very
well. Our wrestlers are some of the best ever to come through this club.
The future looks very bright for the E.C. Glass Varsity program.
I
appreciate all the hard work and effort to date by my wrestlers, parents
and coaches who are indeed the back bone of this organization. I would
like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year.
Coach Brooks and Family
** November 2006** Well the season is here! We
hit the mats on Tuesday night and practice was great. Everyone was excited
to get back to wrestling. We had a great turnout and the wrestling room is
bursting at the seams with new and returning wrestlers. We are truly
fortunate to be able to teach the sport of wrestling to such a fine bunch
of young men. Parents thank you for all that you do for our program and
for bringing your children out to participate. LETS WRESTLE!!!
Coach
Brooks
** October 2006** Let's get ready to wrestle!
It's sign-up time! We will be holding sign-ups on October 24, 26,31 and
November 2, 2006 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at E.C. Glass High School in the
Athletic Center Lobby located on the Memorial Avenue side of the school.
The cost is $30.00 per wrestler. You must provide your own wrestling
shoes. singlets and head gear will be issued. If you have any questions
please contact Tommy Brooks Jr. or Frank Lukanich.
**September 2006** WOW! What a summer! I hope
everyone had fun. It is back to school time and most of you are getting to
know new teachers and getting use to having homework again. Wrestling
season is just around the corner for our K-8 wrestlers. We will be sending
sign-up notices in the mail for those of you who participated in the
program last year. For anyone else interested sign-up dates will be posted
on this web site and also in the Lynchburg News and Daily Advance
newspaper. We expect a large turn out this year and hope you can
participate. Study hard and get ready to wrestle!
Coach
Brooks
**August 2006** Here we are again,
summer is about to wind down and the children will be back in school soon.
That means wrestling season is getting closer and we are excited about the
upcoming season. The wrestling Camp we attended at N.C. State was
educational, fun and good competition for our wrestlers. We met some
interesting people from other parts of our country and even some from
Australia. The Aussies were actual part of our wrestling team for the dual
matches. We made them honorary members of the Hilltoppers wrestling Club
and hope to see them next year at camp. I have been in contact with
several of the assistant coaches from last year. They and their children
are anxious for the season to begin. It's great to know that we have such
involved parents willing to give their time and support to the program.
The parents are the foundation of our program without them this program
would not be the success that it is today. To my wrestlers, stay active!
Swim Bike, run and have fun! I know it has been extremely hot but put down
those video games and go play outside as much as possible. Enjoy the rest
of your summer. I look forward to seeing you again in a couple of months.
Go Hilltoppers!
Coach Brooks
**July 2006** Happy Birthday U.S.A.!!!!! God
Bless America!!! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacations. I
leave for wrestling camp on Saturday the 8th and will return on the 12th.
Everyone involved is excited and has high expectations for the week. I
know what we will learn at this camp will serve to further our hard work
in this club to date. I am beginning to compile an email list of those
parents/guardians who wish to be notified by email as to when sign
ups will be for wrestling season this year. If you wish to be on my email
list please provide me with your name, your child's name/age and your
contact information (address, telephone number and email). Please let me
know if you are new to the program. All those who are interested in being
assistant coaches this coming season please let me know as soon as
possible. I will post on this web site the date, time and place of
registration when the time draws closer.

**June 2006** Summer is upon us! The kids are
out of school and baseball season is winding down. To all my grapplers out
there stay active! Ride a bike, go swimming toss a Frisbee or even
consider participating in a summer wrestling camp. No matter what you
decide to do stay safe. I will be participating in the Bob Guzzo N.C.
State wrestling camp (see our links page for more info) with Coach Chris
Lukanich and the varsity wrestling team the first week of July. I hope to
learn some new techniques that will help to improve my wrestlers this
fall. Go Hilltoppers!
Coach Brooks
** April 2006** Spring is here! I hope all of
my grapplers are having a good time and are staying in shape. Some of you
are getting ready for Baseball season to open. Staying active in sports is
a good way to stay healthy. For those of you not participating in a sport
right now get outside and enjoy the good weather! School will be coming to
an end soon so keep up with your studies and make good grades. A wrestler
needs to have a healthy body and a healthy mind to succeed.

Brooks
**Feb. 2006**It's that time of year again, the end
of the season and it was the most successful one for the program to date.
Coach Lukanich and I would like to thank all of our wrestlers for their
hard work and dedication this season. We look forward to a new season and
hope to see all of you return next year. We would also like to extend our
thanks to all the assistant coaches, parents and volunteers for their
support and participation. When you actively participate you help this
program and the children to be successful.
Go
Hilltoppers!!!!!
Coach Lukanich and Coach Brooks
**Feb. 2006** At the Hilltoppers Banquet on February 14, 2006,
Head Coach Frank Lukanich, Jr. announced that, due to it's great success,
the Hilltoppers Wrestling Club will be reorganizing the structure of the
club so that we will be able to continue to expand in the coming years.
Coach Frank Lukanich, Jr. will now be the General manager for the club and
Coach Tommy Brooks, Jr. will assume the Head coaching position for the K-8
wrestlers for the 2006-2007 season.
** Jan. 2006**Our young wrestlers recently participated in the
E.C. Glass winter Classic held right here on our own turf. This tournament
attracted almost 600 wrestlers from all over the state of Virginia and
surrounding states. The tournament ran very smooth and was completed
quickly. A tournament of this size is very labor intensive and requires
many volunteers. We would like to thank all those who helped make this
tournament a great success. The Hilltoppers wrestlers defended their home
turf with vigor! We had 22 of our wrestlers participating and of those 22
seven (7) won Gold six (6) won silver and four (5) won Bronze.
Congratulations boys you represented yourselves well.
