**January 2008** Happy New Year!  We held our 25th annual Hilltopper Winter Classic on Jan 10. Our tournament was undoubtedly a success. Thanks to everyone that helped make this tournament one of the most efficient tournaments we have run! We started on time and handed out the final medal at 4:15pm. I am very proud of all of my volunteers. Without your help this would not have been a success. I would like to thank all the of wrestlers, clubs, parents and coaches for attending the tournament. You exhibited good sportsmanship and respect for the sport. You are helping to make Central Virginia a respected area for youth wrestling. Thanks for your dedication to the sport. I look forward to the rest of the season.

To the parents, family and supporters of my wrestlers thanks to all of you for your support and hard work this season. Without your help and participation this club. To all my wrestlers, you have worked hard this year and given 100 percent in everything you do. stay in shape and I hope to see you during the summer. I also want to say thank you to a very special person, Mrs. Phyllis Higginbotham. Phyllis has been our team Mom and treasurer since the clubs inception. Her son is now moving up from our squad and Phyllis is following suit. Phyllis will be sorely missed and her shoes will be difficult to fill. Thank you Phyllis and good luck to you and Sumner in your future endeavors.

**January  2008**  Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.  We just finished up our 24th Annual Hilltoppers Classic Tournament. The turnout was great and despite not having the seniors we still had 420+ wrestlers in attendance. Teams from West Virginia, North Carolina and from all corners of Virginia were in attendance. I would like to thank everyone that helped make this tournament such a success. The parents, friends and varsity wrestlers were instrumental  to the success of this tournament. 27 of our youth participated in the tournament. Of the 27  eight wrestlers placed first nine wrestlers placed second  eight placed third and two place fourth. Jacob Brooks of the Hilltoppers Wrestling Club recorded the fastest pin of the day (eight seconds). Our wrestlers have worked hard to date and I look forward to the remainder of the season.

Coach Brooks

**November 2007** Our season has official started!! We have had sign-ups for the past two weeks and had our very first practice last night. What a great turn out!  I enjoyed meeting all of the new wrestlers and their parents as well as seeing all of our returning wrestlers and parents. It looks to be a very good season. I see a lot of raw and developing talent on our mat. Parents, thanks for bringing your children out to participate in our program. Without your participation we would not have a successful club. To those that missed sign-ups all is not lost. Please contact me or Mike MacCormac and we will tell you how to get signed up. I look forward to working with everyone this year. LET'S WRESTLE!!!!!

Coach Brooks

**September 2007** The Hilltoppers Wrestling Club would like to Welcome Dr. Michael MacCormac to our club. Dr. MacCormac will serve as our General manager. Dr. MacCormac has been very involved with wrestling both at the varsity level and youth level. We are very pleased to have him as a part of our club. Our former General Manager Frank Lukanich has decided that after over 30 years of service to the Central Virginia Wrestling community it is time to take a well deserved rest. Although Frank will still participate in club activities, the day to day operation of the club will be turned over to Dr. MacCormac. Frank is a good friend and mentor. Without his vision and drive this club and the sport of wrestling here in Central Virginia would not be what it is today. Thank you Frank.

**February 2007** Wow what a season!!! The last three months have gone by too quickly. Without hesitation I can say this year has been our best year yet. Our older wrestlers have matured into strong and competitive young men with great work ethics and respect for the sport. Our new and younger wrestlers have benefited from the increased size and diversity of our coaching staff. I would like to personally thank all of my assistant coaches. Without their help and dedication to the wrestlers and the sport this program would not have been a success. Thanks to our team mom and our treasurer. You both have been a blessing to this club. To my mentor and General Manager Frank Lukanich, Thank you for all that you do and your commitment to this program. This club and myself are truly fortunate to have you as General Manager. To the parents, family and supporters of my wrestlers thanks to all of you for your support. Without your help and participation this club would not have been as successful this season. Finally to my wrestlers your are all truly champions in spirit, heart and dedication as well as on the mat. It was an honor to coach such a fine group of young men. Stay in shape and I hope to see you during the summer at camp and next season.

** December 2006** This season has been great so far. We have wrestled in Two tournaments to date and have done very well. Our wrestlers are some of the best ever to come through this club. The future looks very bright for the E.C. Glass Varsity program.

I appreciate all the hard work and effort to date by my wrestlers, parents and coaches who are indeed the back bone of this organization. I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Coach Brooks and Family

We are truly fortunate to be able to teach the sport of wrestling to such a fine bunch of young men. Parents thank you for all that you do for our program and for bringing your children out to participate. LETS WRESTLE!!!

Wrestling season is just around the corner for our K-8 wrestlers. We will be sending sign-up notices in the mail for those of you who participated in the program last year. Study hard and get ready to wrestle!

Coach Brooks

**August 2006**  Here we are again, summer is about to wind down and the children will be back in school soon. That means wrestling season is getting closer and we are excited about the upcoming season. The wrestling Camp we attended at N.C. State was educational, fun and good competition for our wrestlers. We met some interesting people from other parts of our country and even some from Australia. The Aussies were actual part of our wrestling team for the dual matches. We made them honorary members of the Hilltoppers wrestling Club and hope to see them next year at camp. I have been in contact with several of the assistant coaches from last year. They and their children are anxious for the season to begin. It's great to know that we have such involved parents willing to give their time and support to the program. The parents are the foundation of our program without them this program would not be the success that it is today. To my wrestlers, stay active! Swim Bike, run and have fun! I know it has been extremely hot but put down those video games and go play outside as much as possible. Enjoy the rest of your summer. I look forward to seeing you again in a couple of months. Go Hilltoppers!

Coach Brooks

**July 2006** Happy Birthday U.S.A.!!!!! God Bless America!!! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacations. I leave for wrestling camp on Saturday the 8th and will return on the 12th. Everyone involved is excited and has high expectations for the week. I know what we will learn at this camp will serve to further our hard work in this club to date. I am beginning to compile an email list of those parents/guardians  who wish to be notified by email as to when sign ups will be for wrestling season this year. If you wish to be on my email list please provide me with your name, your child's name/age and your contact information (address, telephone number and email). Please let me know if you are new to the program. All those who are interested in being assistant coaches this coming season please let me know as soon as possible. I will post on this web site the date, time and place of registration when the time draws closer.

Coach Brooks

**June 2006** Summer is upon us! The kids are out of school and baseball season is winding down. To all my grapplers out there stay active! Ride a bike, go swimming toss a Frisbee or even consider participating in a summer wrestling camp. No matter what you decide to do stay safe. I will be participating in the Bob Guzzo N.C. State wrestling camp (see our links page for more info) with Coach Chris Lukanich and the varsity wrestling team the first week of July. I hope to learn some new techniques that will help to improve my wrestlers this fall. Go Hilltoppers!

Coach Brooks

** April 2006** Spring is here! I hope all of my grapplers are having a good time and are staying in shape. Some of you are getting ready for Baseball season to open. Staying active in sports is a good way to stay healthy. For those of you not participating in a sport right now get outside and enjoy the good weather! School will be coming to an end soon so keep up with your studies and make good grades. A wrestler needs to have a healthy body and a healthy mind to succeed.

Coach Brooks

**Feb. 2006**It's that time of year again, the end of the season and it was the most successful one for the program to date. Coach Lukanich and I would like to thank all of our wrestlers for their hard work and dedication this season. We look forward to a new season and hope to see all of you return next year. We would also like to extend our thanks to all the assistant coaches, parents and volunteers for their support and participation. When you actively participate you help this program and the children to be successful.

Go Hilltoppers!!!!!

Coach Lukanich and Coach Brooks

**Feb. 2006** At the Hilltoppers Banquet on February 14, 2006, Head Coach Frank Lukanich, Jr. announced that, due to it's great success, the Hilltoppers Wrestling Club will be reorganizing the structure of the club so that we will be able to continue to expand in the coming years. Coach Frank Lukanich, Jr. will now be the General manager for the club and Coach Tommy Brooks, Jr. will assume the Head coaching position for the K-8 wrestlers for the 2006-2007 season.

** Jan. 2006**Our young wrestlers recently participated in the E.C. Glass winter Classic held right here on our own turf. This tournament attracted almost 600 wrestlers from all over the state of Virginia and surrounding states. The tournament ran very smooth and was completed quickly. A tournament of this size is very labor intensive and requires many volunteers. We would like to thank all those who helped make this tournament a great success. The Hilltoppers wrestlers defended their home turf with vigor! We had 22 of our wrestlers participating and of those 22 seven (7) won Gold  six (6) won silver and four (5) won Bronze. Congratulations boys you represented yourselves well.
